I’ve written or edited over 200 pieces of content, including blogs, op eds, case studies, action guides, radio stories and video scripts. Writing and Editing

Content and Distribution Strategy

Alongside content experts and Education Resource Strategies CEO Karen Hawley Miles, I lead the editorial development and outreach strategy for Igniting the Learning Engine: How school systems accelerate teacher effectiveness and student growth through Connected Professional Learning. This included:

  • Making it memorable: The piece started out as a fairly technical research report into professional learning. I lead the team to develop a memorable title and to coin a phrase for their recommended PD approach: Connected Professional Learning. This allowed the report to capture readers’ attention.

  • Making it visual: The original paper was quite long. I worked with the designer to add icons, call out boxes, easily-graspable graphs, and effective images to make the report skimmable and digestible.

  • Making it relevant: I pitched Education Week and got a page of findings highlighted in their Special Report on Professional Development and an invitation for author David Rosenberg to host an Education Week webinar on the topic.

Due to these strategies and more (newsletter, social media, collaborations), we saw 500 downloads of the report within the first month (the highest ever for ERS at that time), and the report has been highlighted by Leading Educations, Learning Forward, the Center for Transforming Education, Core Learning, and more.

Photography

I enjoy trying to capture the world around me. I’m particularly drawn to nature and street scenes. I’m still growing this skill - and learning more all the time.
